Plans have been unveiled for a partnership bid by Drugsline and stakeholders in the Muslim community for funding from Redbridge Council to establish a pilot for a substance misuse intervention service. Details were outlined at the recent stakeholder forum event at Drugsline. The aim is to develop Drugsline’s crisis helpline to ensure that the service is available to all sectors of the local community, including non-English speakers.
The service objectives include:
- To extend the helpline operating hours from 20 to 40 per week
- To provide support and information to helpline callers in a number of community languages
- To publicise and provide information in community languages and make available in a wide range of community organisations and locations across Redbridge
- To refer callers to culturally sensitive, or where appropriate, faith-specific substance misuse interventions
The bid documents were signed by Lee Scott MP, Imam Haroon Rashid Patel (Balfour Road Mosque) Rabbi Sufrin (Director, Drugsline), Bashir Choudhury (President, League of British Muslims) and Yasmin Choudhury (Director, The QALB Centre).
