Drugsline Team Up with Essex Police

20th October 2006,

Drugsline's outreach workers have been working alongside Essex Police in Operation Cougar Cub which aims to put youth activity in the spotlight during schools half-term between the 14th and 27th of October 2006.

Drugsline's workers are accompanying the police, talking to children and young people on the streets in Braintree about drugs and alcohol and making them aware of the dangers and risks involved in substance abuse.

Drugsline workers are also able to use their experience to direct those who need help to relevant support services.

Darren Gold, Outreach Team Leader said:

"This is a fantastic opportunity for Drugsline to engage with young people on the streets in Braintree and outside of the formal class room setting. We are grateful to Essex Police for the opportunity to work with them and to offer support to any children in Braintree that might need someone to turn to."

Operation Cougar Cub aims to raise the profile of the work being undertaken by Essex Police officers and staff in the youth arena and reduce youth offending.

Activity is focused in four key areas:

  • To improve engagement with children and young people
  • To reduce victimisation of children and yound people
  • Work to identify and divert children and young people at risk of offending
  • Work to deal with children and young people who are currently offending
