Drugsline receives Jack Petchey Award

19th February 2007,

Drugsline has been presented with a prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation grant in recognition of the pioneering education services it provides to the local community and beyond.

Hosted by Tiptree School in Thurstable, where Drugsline has recently implemented School Outreach sessions, Director of Drugsline Rabbi Sufrin and Schools Team Leader Darren Gold were presented with a cheque for £12,500 by Jack Petchey Foundation Awards Officer Nikki Bush.

Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, Director of Drugsline, commented:

‘On behalf of Drugsline, I would like to say how honoured we are to receive such an esteemed award; the Jack Petchey Foundation is long established and well respected, and we are so grateful that they recognise our commitment and dedication to drugs education within schools’.

Jack Petchey started the Foundation in 1999 to help young people take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society.  The Foundation provides funding for programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25 in London and Essex.

Nikki Bush, Awards Officer for the Foundation, said:

“Drugsline is doing vital work with young people providing education and support at grass roots level.  Getting the message across is important so funding to maintain these outreach sessions is essential”.

Alison Bamonte, a teacher at Tiptree school, commented:

“On the subject of Darren, I thought you would like to know that he's really made a fantastic impression. I'll confess now that I was not entirely sure how it would work out. My experience with some 'reformed' addicts has been that they can sometimes be a little too 'evangelical'. Darren seems to pitch it just right and he has made exactly the right impression with the pupils. We are really very pleased indeed.”
