The holiday season can be a very testing time for alcoholics, drug addicts and their family and friends, as well as those in recovery. While time off work offers a welcome change of pace for some, this loss of routine can be difficult for those in recovery. Although most can justifiably relish the opportunity to relax and have an extra glass of wine or two, this presents an even harsher struggle for those who have suffered addiction. Coupled with what can be one of the loneliest times of the year, the festive season is potentially lethal for recovering and current addicts.
Recognising this, the Drugsline team have pulled together to ensure the crisis line will continue to be manned on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day by members of the fully trained, dedicated volunteer team.
Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, Executive Director of Drugsline, commented:
“It has always struck me as strange that such a huge number of treatment centres close and services cease to operate. I am very proud of everyone at Drugsline for selflessly giving up their time to ensure they will be at the other end of the phone for someone who may need to talk.”
Drugsline will also be circulating and have available a coping and survival guide for the festive season – offering practical advice to in recovery, as well as those living with users.
