The evening support group, which will be facilitated by a fully qualified practitioner, is available every Thursday evening between 7.30pm and 9.00pm, following a fundraising event held last year, which was organised and run by Drugsline volunteers, raising a remarkable three thouand pounds. The clients must be committed to maintaining their abstinence and are required to have a short assessment with a Drugsline counsellor prior to attending.
This move follows an exciting development for the fast growing charity, which has now been formally recognised as an accredited training provider by the Open College Network. Drugslines freephone and confidential crisis line - 0808 1 606 606 - is run solely by a team of more than 60 dedicated, fully trained volunteers, who have each completed Drugslines training programme, which includes counselling and listening skills, addiction understanding and cultural awareness.
Christina Ball, Operations Director for Drugsline, commented:
Drugsline has been delivering a highly regarded training programme for 17 years, and the OCN accreditation confirms this. It also ensures that Drugslines dedicated volunteers are valued not only by the Drugsline team and everyone we help, but by a nationally recognised authority.
Our volunteers can now work towards enhancing their skills and earning credits for learning, which they can take to colleges and universities to develop further.
It was Drugslines training programme that enabled the charity founded by an Orthodox Jew - to join forces with local Muslim leaders and organisations to form the Joining the Loop Partnership which has resulted in the UKs first multi-lingual crisis line that offers guidance and support in Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Hebrew and Yiddish.
